Back in November 2010 we launched our Think Pink campaign to raise money for breast cancer research and related charities. The initial idea was to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of our 5A Hickory Pinks towards breast cancer research. Based on the success of this campaign over the last six months having generated far more interest than originally expected, we've decided to extend our efforts for the entire year! Simply put, this means that all 5A Hickory Pinks sold until the end of October 2011 will continue to fund and support this very important and worthy cause.

Get Involved!

We need your help to make this campaign as successful as possible. Follow the link below to our Think Pink Facebook page and share it with you friends. Also, go down to your local retailer and pick up a pair of these colorful sticks, show your support and keep breast cancer awareness alive all year round.

MEDIA RELEASE:
Newfoundland Business Ensures Canadian Cancer Society the Big Winner by Taking Auction for “Cancer Fund Drumsticks” – Ottawa

June 1, 2011

Cancer seems to have hammered us all as, in one way or another, we are connected to at least one person who has battled this disease. Larry Peyton, drummer for the Ontario-based band
Streets of Hastings, undertook a campaign to raise money for the enduring fight against cancer.

"This past Christmas, Santa gave me a pair of Los Cabos Drumsticks. They were special edition sticks made by a Canadian company in support of breast cancer awareness with a portion of the proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society," said Peyton. "As a memory to those lost to cancer as well as celebration to those who have beaten it, I wrote the names of my friends and family who battled this disease on those sticks. Further, I decided that those sticks would be used at only one big show and then auctioned off with all the money going to the Canadian Cancer Society.

That show was on May 14
th, to a sold-out venue and since then, Peyton has networked tenaciously to raise awareness about his campaign. With the assistance of Matt Carter, Director of Marketing and Artist Relations for the Los Cabos Drumsticks company, as well as via the employment of social media networks such as Twitter and Facebook, word quickly spread about the cause.

At 11:59pm on May 31
st, the auction concluded. With bids received from St. John’s, Calgary, Ottawa, Hanna (Alberta), Boston and Baton Rouge (Louisiana), the winning bid was made at 11:56pm, as follows: “On behalf of Smugglers Cove Roadhouse Bar in Burin, Newfoundland, I would like to bid $1500.00.”

Peyton, along with other guests, will be personally attending Smugglers Cove Roadhouse Bar to make the official presentation.

Combined with donations and the auction, Peyton has raised about $2200.00 to date, and he isn’t stopping there.
Streets of Hastings are on tour in Alberta for a week in July; the campaign will continue until the end of the tour.

Of note, Peyton is a Newfoundlander who currently resides near Ottawa.
